Pakistan Increases Defence Budget, India Deploys Nuclear Warheads
Pakistan has increased its defence budget by 18% to a record PKR 3 trillion despite economic challenges, while India continues to maintain a significant military advantage.
A series of recent developments has highlighted the growing focus on defence preparedness in both India and Pakistan.
Despite facing economic challenges and high inflation, Pakistan has increased its defence budget by 18%, raising military spending to a record PKR 3 trillion (around $10.8 billion). Reports suggest Pakistan is also accelerating efforts to acquire advanced J-35 stealth fighter jets from China and expand its submarine capabilities.
However, India's defence spending remains far larger at around ?7.85 lakh crore ($94 billion)—more than Pakistan's entire national budget.
At the same time, India has successfully tested advanced DRDO technologies designed to strengthen its multi-layered missile defence system. With this achievement, India joins a select group of countries capable of developing such systems independently.
Another significant development is India's deployment of 12 nuclear warheads in a ready-to-use state for the first time. While India has long possessed nuclear weapons, they were previously kept in storage. The move signals increased operational readiness, though India continues to maintain its "No First Use" nuclear policy.
Defence experts say these developments reflect rising military preparedness on both sides. Whether they are signs of a future conflict or simply efforts to strengthen deterrence remains uncertain. For now, both nations appear focused on enhancing their strategic capabilities in an increasingly complex security environment.
