Mullahs Must Leave: Massive Protests in Iran, Trump Issues Warning

Iran is witnessing massive nationwide protests as citizens struggle with extreme inflation, a collapsing currency, and rising frustration with Islamic leaders.

Iran is facing one of its biggest crises in recent years as massive protests erupted across the country on 27 December 2025. For many Iranians, daily life has become extremely difficult due to the high cost of living and the rapid fall of the national currency, the rial. The currency has dropped to 1.42 million per US dollar, losing 56% of its value in just six months. Prices of food, medicines, and other basic items have risen sharply. Dairy prices have increased six times in one year, while other essential goods have become ten times more expensive.

These problems have been building for many years, especially after the 1979 revolution, when Iran shifted from a modern monarchy under the Shah dynasty to an Islamic Republic under Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini. Strict Islamic laws were imposed, economic growth slowed, and relations with other countries suffered. Heavy international sanctions, especially those added by US President Donald Trump in 2015, further reduced Iran’s oil income and cut the country off from the global financial system.

Today, the country is run by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, but people across Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Shiraz, and many cities are demanding that Islamic leaders must be removed and the monarchy restored. Protesters shouted slogans like “Mullahs Must Leave,” “Death to the dictatorship,” and “We will not be free until the mullahs are removed.”

Some protests turned violent, especially in Azna city, where clashes with security forces led to several deaths. US President Trump warned Iran against harming protesters. Meanwhile, reports claim Iran’s top leaders have prepared a backup plan to flee if the situation becomes uncontrollable.
