Monojit Mishra: From Campus Leader to Rape Accused

Former law student Monojit Mishra is accused of a shocking gang-rape case on campus.

A shocking gang-rape case at South Calcutta Law College has shocked the entire country. The main accused is Monojit Mishra, a 31-year-old former student and staff member at the same college.

Just last year, Monojit shared a video demanding justice for a rape case in Kolkata. Now, he is accused of raping a 24-year-old woman inside the college campus.

This raises many serious questions:

- Why was a 31-year-old still active inside a college?

- How did he get so much power and control on campus?

Monojit’s Background

Monojit first joined the law college in 2007, dropped out, and rejoined in 2017. He finally graduated in 2022. Later, he joined the college as clerical staff on contract.

During his student years, Monojit became a strong figure in student politics through the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCP). Even after he passed out, students say he continued to control campus life.

Some called him “dada”, but now he is the main accused in a serious crime. His influence came from his links with powerful political leaders, which helped him move freely inside the college even after graduation.

Despite this, no strict action was taken. Students say he threatened, harassed, and controlled many girls on campus, and even used WhatsApp groups to spread filthy jokes and private photos.

Political Links and College Support

Monojit was officially removed from the student group in 2017, but in reality, his power never reduced. Some teachers and students say the college authorities supported him silently. A formal sexual harassment complaint was even submitted earlier, but no action was taken.

His father, a priest at Kalighat Temple, has now said he cut ties with his son years ago, blaming politics and bad company for destroying his life.

After the news broke, the TMC party denied any connection, saying Monojit never held any official post in the party in recent years and that he must face strong punishment.

What do you think? Should politics be allowed inside college campuses?
