Massive Fire at Goa Nightclub Kills 25, Several Injured

A massive fire at a nightclub in North Goa killed 25 people and injured 50 others, with major safety lapses found at the venue.

A devastating fire broke out at the ak nightclub Birch in Arpora, North Goa, late on 6 December 2025 at around 11:45 pm. The club was hosting a popular “Bollywood Banger Night” with nearly 100 tourists and guests inside. Initial reports suggest that the fire began in the basement and quickly spread to the first floor, possibly triggered by a cylinder blast. Three people died due to burn injuries, while the rest reportedly died from suffocation as thick smoke filled the space.

A viral video from inside the club showed a performer on stage as flames suddenly appeared near the DJ console. At first, guests believed it was part of the performance, but within seconds the fire spread across the ceiling, causing panic. In total, at least 25 people lost their lives, including four tourists and 14 staff members, while 50 others were injured.

Eyewitnesses said the nightclub had very narrow entry and exit points, causing chaos as people tried to escape. Some guests ran toward the kitchen in the basement, where they became trapped due to poor ventilation. Firefighters struggled to reach the site because the lanes were too narrow for fire engines, which had to be parked nearly 400 metres away.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant called it a shocking tragedy and ordered a full inquiry. Several staff members were arrested, and the building was sealed. Serious fire-safety lapses were found, and officials have been suspended. The Goa government and PMO announced financial assistance for victims’ families. A statewide inspection of nightclubs and bars has now begun to improve safety standards.
