8 acres of mangroves will be cut for the Navi Mumbai airport project.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis moved the deadline to complete the Navi Mumbai airport from December 2019 to March 2020. 8 acres of mangroves have to be cut down, for the airport to be completed on time.

Mangroves are trees which grow on the water in coastal areas. The Union Ministry Forest and Climate Change (MoEF), approved the cutting of the mangroves for the benefit of the public. The permission was given on the condition that all the rules to replant the mangroves would be followed.

City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), initially said that road on the mangroves will be made putting a bridge on it, because of technical problems they are now building it on the ground.
