Man Accused of Driving the Car Over Anjali Was at Home
Yet another day and another shocking revelation in the Anjali hit-and-run case has been made. What are the latest updates?
The shocking hit-and-run case of Anjali Singh is taking drastic turns with every passing day. Now, giving a major update on the case, Delhi Police said that apart from the five accused that we all knew of till now, there are two more men involved in the matter. The two new suspects, identified as Ashutosh, the owner of the car, and Ankush, the brother of one of the accused, are now in focus in the hit-and-drag case. Delhi Police have now arrested the sixth accused in the Kanjhawala accident case. The accused have been identified as Ashutosh. Meanwhile, fresh CCTV footage that has also given the case new turns. On 5th January 2023 , CCTV footage showed a PCR van just 40 seconds behind the Baleno car involved in the case at a turn.
Another CCTV footage of the accused getting out of the car and inspecting it below has also surfaced. There were other people standing on the road when one of the accused was checking the car. Who are these men? There is no information. This has brought the whole point of the accused being unaware of Anjali being stuck under the car into doubt. Much more shockingly, ??the man who is accused of driving the car was not inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. Police said that it was found that it was Amit Khanna, who was allegedly driving the car. After the accident, Amit told his brother Ankush Khanna about it. Ankush then asked them to contact Deepak (their cousin), who has a license, to take the blame. During interrogation, the accused gave contradictory statements. CCTV footage was checked, but it wasn’t clear who was driving. But then police found that Deepak’s phone location from the time did not match with that of the other four accused in the case. His phone location and call records showed he was at home all day. Ashutosh is said to have known about the body and allegedly lied to the police about the driver. Ashutosh told police he gave the car to Deepak and Amit, the FIR states. Police said, “He is an accomplice who knew about the body but didn’t say anything and also lied that Deepak was the driver,”
The officers are also investigating why the men continued to drive around even after mowing down Anjali without the fear of getting caught. According to the accused, they were just "killing time" as they didn't want to wake up the owner to return the vehicle at 2 am. The police told the magistrate that they needed to establish the nearly 13-km-long route the accused had taken that night. And the magistrate has granted the 4 day police custody of the accused to the police. The men left their houses around 6 pm and went to Manoj Mittal’s ration shop in Sultanpuri, where they allegedly got drunk. They stayed there till 10 pm and then left for Murthal, Haryana. The men left Murthal around midnight. While returning, between 1.40 am and 2 am, they were on the same route that was being taken by Anjali and her friend. The Baleno car and the scooter were entering a narrow lane when the car hit it from the front. The women fell on the road. A source said, “The men were in an inebriated state and fled from the spot. They reversed the car; Anjali came under the car and the lower part of her leg got stuck near the tyre. She was then dragged. Initially, the men may not have known that she was trapped, but realized it in some time.” A police officer, “ They were intentionally avoiding and didn’t cross any borders to avoid checkpoints. They kept driving in circles, taking small cuts and turns to avoid police. Around 4 am, the body fell from the car,” Meanwhile, the Delhi Police will be taking the five accused to Murthal in Haryana and to recreate the crime scene. However, whether the sixth accused who has been recently arrested will also be taken to the crime scene or not is not clear.
