Since March due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown, religious places in Maharashtra have been closed.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday 14th November gave a speech and wished everyone a Happy Diwali. He also announced that all places of religious worship in the state would be allowed to reopen for devotees from November 16. He said wearing a face mask will be compulsory. Thackeray also urged people to follow social-distancing and other COVID-19 protocols such as hand sanitizers will be compulsory. He also said that “If we follow discipline at religious places, we will get God's blessings." Thackeray said, "We can't forget that the demon coronavirus is still amongst us. Even though this demon is slowly falling silent now, we cannot be complacent."
