Ganpati Idol Falls During Aagman: 2 Died, 5 Injured
Two people died, and five were injured after a 22-foot Ganesh idol structure collapsed during a procession in Mumbai.
Two people were killed and five others, including two children, were injured after a 22-foot Ganesh idol fell during an arrival ceremony in Mumbai on 23 August 2026.
The incident happened around 10 pm at Jay Ambe Chowk in Bhuleshwar, where a large crowd had gathered to welcome the idol of ‘Bhuleshwara Cha Raja’. The idol was being taken from Byculla towards Bhuleshwar when the structure carrying it suddenly fell.
Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, traffic police, civic officials and ambulance teams reached the spot and started rescue operations. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.
Two people, 33-year-old Sanket Nevshe and 30-year-old Brijesh Joshi, later died in hospital. The five injured, including 5-year-old Lavanya Ganer and 7-year-old Divya Ganer, are reported to be stable.
The exact reason for the collapse is still being investigated. Some reports suggested that the trolley may have hit a pothole, while a preliminary investigation indicated that a welding support at the back of the idol may have broken.
In another Ganpati arrival incident in Mazgaon on the same day, eggs were allegedly thrown at the procession of Mazgaon Cha Morya Ganpati from a nearby building. The incident led to arguments and a gathering of people.
Police registered an FIR against unidentified people and are checking CCTV footage to identify those responsible.
