Indian Railway Stations to Upgrade to Airport-Like Standards

The Indian Railway has decided to revamp its railway stations, in order to provide customers with airport quality services.

The Indian Railway has planned a redevelopment programme which will cost Rs 1 lakh crore. They have created a plan to upgrade 204 railway stations in India. They have decided to upgrade 11 railways stations to airport-like standards in the Northeast Frontier Railway [NFR]. 5 of these railways stations are in Assam.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, has asked the railways to improve the lighting at railway stations. He said that this will reduce wastage of electricity to great extent. He has asked the Railway Board, to provide free Wi-fi at 2,000 railway station as soon as possible.

The Indian Railway wants to start airport-like security checks at railway stations. Which means the railway station will be sealed 20 mins before the departure of a train. Many railway stations were upgraded with services such as modern [Box 05 public toilets, 5-star lounge, lifts, escalators, water vending machines and other facilities.

The Indian Railway wants to modernise trains and railway stations. They want to provide passengers, airport like facilities at railway stations, so that the passengers are comfortable.
