On 8 March 2026, India created history by winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team with a dominant performance, scoring 255/5 in 20 overs before bowling New Zealand out for 159 runs in 19 overs.

With this victory, India became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times and the first team ever to successfully defend the title. It also marked the first time a team has won a T20 World Cup on home soil. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Match after taking 4 wickets for 15 runs in the final. Sanju Samson was awarded Player of the Tournament after scoring 321 runs, surpassing Virat Kohli’s previous Indian record of 319 runs in a single T20 World Cup.

The match drew massive crowds, with around 1.35 lakh fans filling the stadium and thousands travelling to Ahmedabad from across India and abroad. Hotels, flights and local businesses saw a huge surge in activity during the final weekend. Adding to the historic occasion, the Indian national anthem “Jana Gana Mana” was sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy before the match, making the night even more memorable for fans and players alike.
