In a horrifying incident, on 19th September 2020 evening, a husband in Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun District slit open the belly of his pregnant wife. The husband’s name was Pannalal. He is 43 years old. His wife Anita Devi was 4-months pregnant. They have 5 daughters. A priest in their village said that their 6th child would also be a girl. Pannalal wanted a boy and was forcing his wife to abort the baby. But anita devi was adamant on keeping the child.
On 19th September, they had a fight and anita refused the abortion. Pannala became very angry. He took a sickle and slit anita’s belly to find out what was the gender of the baby. Their neighbours and Anita’s younger brother Ravi Kumar arrived at her house. They rushed her to a district hospital in Bareilly. Though the baby in the womb was unhurt, Anita’s condition became worse. As her condition worsened at the district hospital in Bareilly, her brother, Ravi Kumar Singh, took her to a private hospital. But she could not be admitted as authorities there asked her brother to deposit Rs 4lakh to start the treatment. Then Anita’s family rushed her to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Doctors are working hard to save her and her unborn baby’s life. Anita’s family said that Pannalal always harassed Anita Devi for giving birth to so many girls. But they never imagined he would take such a cruel step. Pannalal has been arrested and a complaint has been filed against him for trying to murder his wife.
