Football Legend Pele Passes Away at the Age of 82

Pele, the Brazilian football legend who holds the record of winning the Fifa trophy thrice has passed away at the age of 82 suffering from colon cancer.

Just after the iconic Fifa World Cup 2022 has ended after Argentina left the trophy in Qatar, extremely sad news has now hit the international football fraternity. Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly known as Pele, was a legendary Brazilian footballer widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He was born on 23rd October 1940 in the Brazilian State of Minas Gerais. He became famous after playing an important part in Brazil's FIFA World Cup victory in 1958.  As a teenager, Pele fired in a hat-trick in the semi-final against France and followed it up with a good performance in the final against Sweden. He was part of the Brazilian team that won their second World Cup title in 1962, and the third World Cup in 1970. He scored 12 goals in his World Cup career, which included a total of four tournaments, out of which he won three of them. Pele remained the highest goal-scorer for Brazil, with 77 goals in 95 games, during his lifetime. He had been married thrice. He had a total of 7 children.

Sadly, Pele, who was now 82 years old, passed away on the late night of 28th December 2022, died due to colon cancer, for which he was undergoing chemotherapy. However, he stopped responding to chemotherapy and was shifted to intensive care. He was admitted to a hospital for a respiratory problem on 29th of November. Notably, during his final days from the bed, he cheered for the Brazilian team during the recently concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Tributes poured in from the entire football fraternity and his fans soon after his daughter officially announced this sad news on her Instagram handle on 29th December 2022. Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe, Neymar and other famous footballers and fans and the world paid their respect to Pele.
