Doctor Runs for 45 Mins in Traffic to Perform Patients Surgery

A Surgeon in Bangalore ran three kilometres with his foot in 45 mins to reach the hospital on time.

We all have heard stories of how Bengaluru has the worst traffic in the world, with people having to spend a huge amount of time to cover even small distances. Now, the condition has become worse due to rains and water logging. One such person stuck in traffic was Gastroenterology surgeon Dr Govind Nandakumar, who had an emergency gallbladder surgery scheduled at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru’s Sarjapur area on 30th August. Despite commencing his journey on time, he got stuck in the traffic jam on the Sarjapur-Marathalli highway. As he was getting late for the operation, the doctor decided to ditch his car and ran the rest of the distance to the hospital. He ran to Manipal hospital and covered a distance of three kilometres with his foot in 45 mins to reach the hospital on time. The doctor while talking to “The Times of India” said, “I did not want to waste any more time waiting for the traffic to clear up as my patients aren’t allowed to have their meals until surgery is over. I did not want to keep them waiting for long,”. “I have a driver, so I was able to leave the car behind. It was easy for me to run because I gym regularly. I ran three kms to the hospital, and was in time for the surgery,” he said.

He said he commutes every day from central Bangalore to Manipal Hospitals in Sarjapur, which is in the Southeast of Bangalore. On 30th August, He left his home well in time for the surgery. His team was all set and prepared to perform the surgery as soon as the doctor would reach the hospital.

However, looking at the huge traffic, He decided to leave the car with the driver and ran towards the hospital without thinking twice. Meanwhile, Dr Nandakumar’s team, which was ready to induce anaesthesia on the patient, got into action as soon as he reached the operation theatre. The doctor changed into surgical attire and performed the procedure successfully. After the video which shows him running towards the hospital in order to perform his duty has gone viral on the internet with people pouring appreciation looking at the dedication of the doctor.

People are now also comparing the surgeon with a superhero in the white coat who is performing his duty to save lives. What do you think about this? Do mention your thoughts about Dr Nandakumar in the comment section below.
