Chandigarh Stands United: Thousands Volunteer to Help

The Defence Forces asked for volunteers to help during emergencies. Thousands in Chandigarh came forward — not for jobs, but to serve the country.

After the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Defence Forces and the Chandigarh government made a special request to the public:
“We need volunteers — people who are ready to help the country during any emergency.”

This is not a job. It is not a paid opportunity.
This is volunteer service — helping others out of love and care for the nation.

What is Volunteer Service?

A volunteer is someone who gives their time and effort for free, without asking for money. In this case, the government invited people aged 18 and above to become Civil Defence Volunteers in Chandigarh.

What Will These Volunteers Do?

They will not be sent to war or put in dangerous places. Instead, they will be trained to help during:

- Blackouts or air raid alerts

- Fire or gas leak emergencies

- Helping elderly or sick people during evacuations

- Giving basic first aid

Experts from the fire department and disaster teams are giving training. Volunteers are learning how to stay safe, support others, and take the right steps during an emergency.

Huge Support in Chandigarh

After the government’s request, thousands of people came forward to register at Tagore Theatre and Tiranga Urban Park.

People from all religions — Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs — stood together, showing unity and a strong spirit of patriotism.

A young man said, “I’m ready to give my time and energy to help our soldiers and people.”
A woman volunteer added, “So many of us came forward. It shows how much we care about our country.”

Important Message:

This is not a government job.
There is no salary.
This is a chance to serve the country in peaceful ways during emergencies and show solidarity with our defence forces.

The spirit of service in Chandigarh proves one thing:
India’s strength lies in its united people.
