Caught on CCTV: The Deadly Nowgam Police Station Blast
A powerful accidental blast at Nowgam Police Station killed nine people and injured over 30 while officials were handling unstable explosive materials.
ISH News had earlier reported that in connection to the Red Fort Delhi blast, police had seized a very large quantity of bomb-making chemicals during the Faridabad (Haryana) investigation of a “white-collar” terror module. Media reports say that the total recovered was very large, around 2,900 kg of suspected explosive materials, and some of it was sent to Srinagar for forensic testing.
Officials say a smaller batch from the Faridabad seizure, about 350–360 kg, was kept at the Nowgam Police Station when the accident took place. Police and forensic teams were examining the materials and taking samples, which is a normal part of an investigation. Samples help experts identify the chemical makeup, match devices, and collect evidence.
On the night of 14 November 2025, while the staff was working inside the Nowgam police station compound, part of the stored explosives accidentally detonated. The blast was extremely powerful. Nine people lost their lives and around 30–31 people were injured. Those who died included police, forensic staff and civilian workers. The explosion damaged the building, burned vehicles and scattered debris. Human remains were found far from the site due to the force.
CCTV footage from the station captured the sudden fireball and destruction. Officials have stated that there is no evidence of a terror attack and have called it an accidental blast caused by unstable materials. Senior officials, including the Lieutenant Governor and the DGP, visited the site and ordered an inquiry. Teams from NIA, NSG/NBDC and central forensic labs are now examining samples and evidence to find the exact cause.
