Cannes 2022 has started with a blast and show with India being at the centre of focus. India is the ‘Country of Honour’ at Marche Du Films organised in the Cannes Film Festival in France
If you are a hollywood-bollywood fan, or even if films excite you a little, Cannes Film Festival is something you might have kept your eyes on. Cannes film festival is very very popular where films from all around the world are shown. Like how Oscar is a famous award ceremony, Cannes Film Festival is famous for premiering world class movies. Every year film celebrities from around the world walk the red carpet in fancy clothes and everyone is waiting to see who is wearing what. This is the 75th edition of the festival and it began on 17th May in France. Every year along with the festival there is something called as Marche du Film or Cannes Market which runs parallel to the Festival.
This year for the first time, Cannes has selected a “Country of Honour” in the Marche du Film. This country is selected on the basis of the country’s rich, historical, cultural and heritage. It is a proud moment for India as India has been selected as the ‘Country of Honour’ at Marche Du Films because India has been making films for more than 100 years and it has a rich and cultural history in film making. India was represented by the Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Thakur along with R Madhavan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui , Shekhar Kapur, Prasoon Joshi, Ricky Kej, Vani Tripathi etc. Following this Anurag Thakur tweeted, “A historic moment as India is the 1st ‘Country of Honour’ at Marche Du Films @Festival_Cannes gets set to manifest into the ‘content hub of the world and the preferred ‘post production hub’ for global filmmakers
This year, six other films from India are being screened and premiered for the first time at the Marche Du Films. These include – Actor R Madhavan’s directorial debut Rocketry – The Nambi Effect (Hindi, English, Tamil), Godavari (Marathi), Alpha Beta Gamma (Hindi), Boomba Ride (Mishing), Dhuin (Maithili) and Niraye Thathakalulla Maram (Malayalam). Along with this as one of the highlights of India’s status as the ‘Country of Honour’, a special screening of a restored Indian classic film “Pratidwandi”, directed by Satyajit Ray, has been planned as part of the festival’s Cannes Classics selection which is another big moment of proud for every Indian.
Apart from these actors who represented India at the Marche Du Films, Actors like Deepika Padukone, Tammanah Bhatia, Urvashi Rautela, Pooja Hegde were seen burning the floors of the Cannes film festival. Aishwarya Rai too marked her presence in the film fest wearing a pink outfit. Aishwarya Rai Bachhan was spotted along with husband Abhishek Bachhan & Daughter Aaradhya Bachhan who were greatly welcomed at this French film festival.
