Bhopal's Diwali Special Sweet Pishori Pista Is Rs.24,000/KG

Bhopal's Gaagar Sweets is selling a luxury Diwali sweet, “Pishori Pista,” for ?24,000 per kg, while U.S. states declare Diwali a public holiday.

During the festive season, we all notice that shops and restaurants raise their prices, especially for sweets. Not only that, but popular delivery apps like Zomato and Swiggy have also increased their platform fee from Rs.7 to Rs.10 due to the festival rush.

But what if the sweet itself is already incredibly expensive, costing thousands of rupees per kilogram?

In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the famous Gaagar Sweets shop, which has been around for 51 years, is selling a special Diwali sweet called “Pishori Pista” for a staggering Rs.24,000 per kg. This luxurious sweet has gone viral on social media due to its eye-catching look and wallet-emptying price tag.

Why Is Pishori Pista So Expensive?

Dharmendra Dang, the current owner of Gaagar Sweets, shared the reason behind this high price. The sweet’s main ingredient is the Pishori pistachio, a special variety known for its vibrant green color, rich flavor, and high nutritional value. These pistachios are only grown in the Paschin district of Pakistan and are imported directly, making them quite costly.

Unlike regular sweets that use sugar, Pishori Pista is sweetened with Stevia, a natural sugar substitute made from the leaves of the Stevia Rebaudiana plant. Although Stevia is available in India, Gaagar Sweets imports it from South America to ensure authenticity for its health-conscious customers, adding to the cost.

According to the traditional recipe, small amounts of edible gold and silver are added to the sweet. The final touch includes pure gold vark (gold foil) and saffron strands that completely cover the sweet, making it even more luxurious.

A Unique, Artistic Presentation

The Pishori Pista sweet is presented in a unique box designed by Padma Shri-winning artists Venkat Raman Singh Shyam and Durga Bai Vyam. Their box features intricate Gond artwork, a traditional tribal art style from Madhya Pradesh, enhancing the sweet’s value.

Is Pishori Pista the Most Expensive Sweet in India?

While Pishori Pista is the most expensive sweet in Bhopal, it is not the priciest in India. That title belongs to “The Exotica” from Lucknow, priced at about Rs.50,000 per kg.

Diwali Gains Global Recognition

This year, Diwali celebrations have reached new heights worldwide. Four U.S. states—Pennsylvania, Texas, New Jersey, and New York—have declared Diwali an official public holiday. They acknowledged Diwali’s significance and encouraged people to participate in its festivities, which promote hope and goodwill.

Adding to the festive spirit, Indian-origin NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, who has been on the International Space Station (ISS) for over five months, shared a special Diwali message from space. She warmly wished everyone on Earth and shared stories of how her father taught her about Diwali’s meaning. This year, Williams will celebrate Diwali 260 miles above the Earth on the ISS, making her Diwali celebration truly out of this world.
