Bangladesh Air Force Plane Crashes Into School

A Bangladesh Air Force jet crashed into a Dhaka school, killing at least 20 people, including the pilot, and raising fresh concerns over aviation safety.

A big tragedy has happened in Bangladesh. On 21st July 2025, a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) training jet crashed into a school building in Dhaka’s Uttara area. At least 20 people, including students, teachers, staff, and the pilot, lost their lives. More than 170 people were injured and many are in critical condition.

The aircraft was a Chinese-made F-7 BGI fighter jet. It had taken off from the BAF Base Bir Uttom A.K. Khandker in Dhaka around 1:00 PM for a normal training flight. Just six minutes after takeoff, there was a sudden technical failure. Reports say it could be due to an engine problem or loss of control.

The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Md Towkir Islam, tried very hard to move the jet away from homes and crowded areas. Instead of saving his own life immediately by using the ejection seat, he stayed inside the jet and tried to steer it towards open space. Sadly, the jet crashed into Milestone School & College, hitting “Block B” and damaging a nearby house. The pilot ejected just before the crash but later died from injuries. People are calling him a hero for trying to save others till the last moment.

The Bangladesh government has announced a national day of mourning. The interim government of Muhammad Yunus said they will give compensation to the families of those who died. Condolences have come from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, UAE, and groups like the UN and Amnesty International.

This year, there have been many plane crashes around the world, including in India and the UK. People are now asking if planes are being properly maintained, if pilots are working too much, and if safety rules are being followed properly. An investigation is now happening to find out the truth about this crash.
