72 Hours After Inaugration 3 Accidents in Atal Tunnel

72 hours after the inauguration of the Atal Tunnel, 3 accidents occurred in the tunnel due to reckless tourists. Watch our latest video for all the details.

The Atal Tunnel Rohtang is a highway tunnel built under the Rohtang Pass on the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is at a length of 9.02 km and is the longest tunnel at a height of 13,000 feet in the world. The tunnel is named after the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. On 3rd October Prime Minister, Narendra Modi inaugurated the tunnel. 72 hours after the inauguration hundreds of tourists and motorists have taken to over-speeding and racing in the newly opened tunnel. 

Some did not adhere to the speed limit of 80km/hr, others stopped midway to click selfies. This resulted in three accidents. The accidents were recorded by the CCTV cameras installed inside the tunnel. Brigadier K.P. Purushothaman - BRO Chief Engineer said, no one is allowed to station their vehicle anywhere in the middle of the tunnel but some people did not follow rules. He further informed that he has requested for police deployment to prevent accidents.
