65,000 Hindu Families Were Forced to Leave Kashmir

Kashmiri Pandits and the crimes they have faced in the last 30 years is beyond imagination, however according to a recent report released by the home ministry another shocking fact has been revealed i

After the release of the film “Kashmir Files” this year, The whole country has started to understand the pain of the Kashmiri Pandits and the crimes they have been through. Almost from last 30 years the Kashmir issue and the families of Kashmiri Pandits have been a major political matter in this country, and alot has been done in order to hide the pain of the hindu families who were not just forced to leave the place but who were also brutally raped, murdered and faced almost every sort of of crimes anyone of us could ever imagine.

However, earlier according to the official number only about  5000 people belonging to hindu religion were forced to leave their homes in Kashmir, But according to a recent report by the Home ministry these numbers are not just manipulated but are massively suppressed. Talking about the real number, it was definitely not just 5000 but was in lakhs.  65,000 families of Kashmiri Pandits were forced to leave the Kashmir valley in the 1990’s. Remember we are talking about 65,000 families and not 65,000 people, which takes the total number of affected people in lakhs. The total number of people who were forced to migrate from kashmir will reach around 2.6 Lakhs including women and children which is a lot more then the earlier official counts of 5000. This is just not all, along with 2.6 lakh migrants, nearly 14,000 people and 5,500 Army personnel have lost their lives in Kashmir between 1990 and 2020. According to the recent report by the home ministry majority of the affected families are now living in Jammu and Delhi (NCR) region while around 2000 families have relocated to different parts of the country.

It is important for us to understand how difficult it must be for the families to leave their homes behind just carrying a handful of luggage  and in some cases even leaving the dead bodies of their close ones behind without having time to mourn their deaths. Even when we have to relocate to a new place for a few days we face a lot of difficulties and miss our homes.

Will Kashmir slowly go back to normal? Will the affected families ever get a chance to move back to their land and continue living with years old memories? The Home ministry has approved 920 Crores to relocate the Kashmiri Hindus back to their homeland, however when it is going to happen in reality, no one knows. All we can do is sit back and pray for the well being and return of our Kashmiri pandit friends to their homeland in the earliest possible time.

CORRECTION: Total number of people is 2.60 lakh and not 2.06 lakhs.
