26-Year-Old IPS Officer Dies in Accident on Way to His First Posting
IPS officer Harsh Bardhan tragically lost his life in a road accident in Karnataka, just before starting his first posting as DSP.
In a heart-wrenching incident, Harsh Bardhan, a young and promising IPS officer, lost his life in a tragic road accident in Karnataka. Harsh, originally from Bihar, had been living with his family in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. He was the son of a sub-divisional magistrate and had worked hard to achieve his dreams.
Harsh Bardhan was a civil engineering graduate from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He made his family proud by securing the 153rd rank in the UPSC examination on his first attempt. After completing his training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru, Harsh was ready to begin his career in the police force.
On 1st December 2024, Harsh reported to the Inspector General of Police (Central Range) Boralingaiah, following the protocol. Later that evening, he travelled in a Mahindra Bolero from Boralingaiah to Holenarasipur, a town in Karnataka, where he was about to take his first posting as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Tragedy struck when the car's tyre burst as they reached Kittane in Hassan district. The driver lost control of the vehicle, and it crashed into a roadside house and tree. Harsh Bardhan suffered serious head injuries, while the driver only had minor injuries. Locals quickly rushed both to the nearest hospital for treatment, but despite efforts, Harsh succumbed to his injuries.
This news has deeply shocked everyone, with several senior officers, political leaders, and friends expressing their grief and paying their respects. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also shared his condolences on social media, mourning the loss of such a dedicated officer.
One of Harsh's batch-mates from college, Shailendra Singh, took to social media to share his sadness and frustration over the loss. He spoke about how Harsh had worked tirelessly for years to clear the UPSC exam and finally get his first posting as a DSP, but sadly, he never got to receive his first salary. Shailendra also raised concerns about vehicle safety in India, asking why five-star safety cars are not a priority for the country.
The sudden death of Harsh Bardhan has left everyone shocked, and his loss is felt by many. He was a dedicated officer, and his life was full of promise. This tragic incident also raises important questions about road safety and the need for better safety measures in vehicles to prevent such accidents.
