AFWD Hosts Women’s Day Celebrations in Assam
A fun women’s day celebration has been organised in Assam! Watch the video to know all the details.
There is a Deaf women’s association in Assam named AFDW which stands for Assam Foundation Women of the Deaf. Let me explain how AFDW was started.The Assam Association of the Deaf’s General Secretary is Tapan Kumar Sharma. He is also the Vice-President of AIFD. He works with the association to help Deaf individuals. He observed that there were many Deaf women suffering in Assam. He then set up AFDW under the AAD. AFWD started in 2002.Tapan works with AFWD as an Advisor. A big thank you to him for motivating women. AFWD’s President is Anowora Begum. The General Secretary is Nikita Kumari. AFW are organising an International Women’s Day Programme on 8th March. Timings: 9:00am - 6:00pm
Both men & women from all over India and the North-east are invited to attend.Why are men invited to a women’s day event? Well this is to create awareness among men about the problems of women and showcase that women can do anything. The organisers of AFWD have requested all women attending to wear clothes in the green family. Entry fees per head is Rs 200. 1st March is the last date. After that it will be Rs 50 extra.If you want to stay on 8th March you will have to pay Rs 200. If you arrive before 8th march and want to stay please contact AFDW.
Priti Shah Soni will be giving a presentation on women empowerment and motivation. Sheetal Kimmatkar is a magician. She will showcase her magic tricks at the event proving that women can do anything.An exhibition showcasing products created by Assamese women will be there. Women with skills such as art, flower making, sculpture making, embroidery, etc. are invited to apply and take part in the exhibition. A Bihu dance will also be presented.A lucky draw will be held just for women. If you want to take part in the lucky draw you have to pay Rs 50. Last date is 1st March after which it will be Rs 30 extra. There are 10 different gifts in the lucky draw.
