India’s Defence Power: BrahMos, S-400 and Akashteer

Operation Sindoor showcased India's military strength with precise missile strikes and powerful air defence systems that protected the nation and sent a strong message against terrorism.

Operation Sindoor stands as one of the most powerful actions taken by India in recent years, sending a strong and clear message to Pakistan for its continued support of terrorism. The Indian Armed Forces showcased extraordinary courage and efficiency as they launched precision strikes on terrorist camps and air bases deep inside Pakistan, causing significant damage. At the same time, India’s advanced air defence systems protected the nation from any counterattack, ensuring zero damage on our side.

Among the key weapons used was the BrahMos Supersonic Missile, jointly developed by India and Russia. Known for its speed and precision, BrahMos can strike targets up to 450 km away at nearly three times the speed of sound. Its versatility allows it to be launched from land, air, sea, and submarines. The missile has attracted the interest of many countries, boosting India’s position in global defence trade. Recently, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a new BrahMos production unit in Lucknow, with plans to produce 100 missiles annually.

India’s S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence system, purchased from Russia in 2018, also played a key role. When Pakistan launched a missile attack on 15 Indian cities during the operation, the S-400 neutralized every incoming threat within seconds. Capable of creating a 360-degree shield and firing 128 missiles simultaneously, the system proved its worth. Former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s bold decision in 2016 to go ahead with the S-400 deal, despite international pressure, has now been validated.

Another major success story was Akashteer, India’s indigenously developed air defence control system. Built by BEL and DRDO, Akashteer worked in real time with other defence systems like Akash Missiles, S-400, MRSAM, and anti-drone units. During the recent attacks, Akashteer successfully destroyed 15 missiles and 37 drones without a single Indian loss. Experts say it outperforms even Israel’s Iron Dome, offering wider coverage at a much lower cost.

The Akash missile system, which forms the core of Akashteer, was developed under the leadership of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. His vision of strong, home-grown missile technology has now become a reality.

As India emerges stronger and more prepared, the nation salutes the bravery of its Armed Forces and the brilliance of its defence scientists. Operation Sindoor was not just a military success — it was a moment of national pride.
