A trans-man, upset over rejection, brutally murders his friend, a software engineer, after a birthday outing, confessing to the crime when apprehended by the police.

A 25-year-old female software engineer named R Nandhini was brutally murdered one day before her birthday on 23rd December 2023 in Thalambur on the outskirts of Chennai by her trans-gender friend. Why was she killed by her friend? Here are  all the details:
Nandini and Pandi Maheswari were friends. They were natives of Madurai, Tamil Nadu and studied together till Class 12. Pandi Maheswari is an MBA graduate and had undergone sex change process to marry Nandini and changed name to Vetrimaran. Vetrimaran, a trans-man, was angry over Nandhini's refusal to enter into a relationship with him. Despite undergoing a sex-change, Nandhini had made it clear that they had no future together. Vetrimaran was angry about Nandini drifting away from him and getting close to a colleague of hers. Nandhini had rejected Vetrimaran's proposals which led to strained relations between the two. But despite the fallout, they both maintained some communication. Nandhini had recently secured a job in Chennai after completing her BSc degree in Information Technology (IT) and was living with her uncle in the city. Vetrimaran contacted Nandhini and invited her to spend time together on the occasion of her birthday. A day before her birthday, they met and during their meeting, Vetrimaran gave her new clothes, took her to a temple and an orphanage near Tambaram, where they made a donation. Afterwards, he suggested that he will drop her home and stopped at a remote Ponmar location on the way. He requested Nandhini to pose for photos in the lonely region. He then took the chains from his bike and tied her hands and feet while assuring her it was just for fun. Despite her protests, he refused to release Nandhini. He blindfolded her, later used a knife to slit her neck, wrists and ankles and then poured fuel on her and set her on fire. Vetrimaran fled the crime scene. The locals found half-burnt Nandhini and immediately informed the police. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and died later that day but before dying she provided Vetrimaran's contact number to those who found her. When police called him, Vetrimaran arrived at the crime scene and said that Nandhini was his friend and even accompanied police in transporting Nandhini to the hospital. By the time Nandhini died, Vetrimaran had disappeared. He was later tracked down and arrested by the police on 24th December 2023. Vetrimaran is in judicial custody, confessed to crime stating that he was angry with Nadhini for refusing his proposal. Inquiry is currently underway.
