But will this end the war?
To understand this, it is very very important to understand what are the demands of Russia in order to end the ongoing war. Russia in order to end the war has four demands-
-
Ukraine is not to be a part of NATO.
However this demand of Russia seems to have met as Ukraine's president in the latest interview said that he is no longer willing to be a part of NATO, & Ukraine is no longer an aspiring candidate for NATO membership.
-
Recognize the Lugansk and Donetsk regions as independent states.
The second demand of Russia is to officially term Lugansk & Donetsk which are currently a part of Ukraine to be officially declared as two independent nations. This demand of Russia seems to have met as well as the Ukraines president Zelensky has said that “He is ready to Compromise, on this issue” However, he further said that the decision should be left on people to decide who wants to be a part of Ukraine and the others who don't want to be a part.
-
Crimea officially becoming a part of Russia.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed willingness to discuss Russia’s demands for Ukraine to recognize Crimea, which is currently a part of Ukraine. He further said Ukraine is open for discussions about how the people living in these regions will continue to live on. So the third demand of Russia has a possible positive outcome as well.
-
Demilitarization of Ukraine.
The fourth demand of Russia on the list is that Ukraine stops all military action. A Russian official said Russia is committed to "finishing" the demilitarization of Ukraine. In much simpler words, Russia doesn't want Ukraine to have any functional army. However, this demand of Russia is unlikely to be accepted by Ukraine because it's the main reason the country's been able to keep out the Russian Troops to take control over Ukraine. Also, Ukrainian president Zelensky said through an interpreter that he does not want to be President of a "country which is begging for something on its knees." and hence Ukraine won't drop their weapons and this is the fourth and the only demand which has remained completely non-negotiable so far. Based on the demands of Russia to end the ongoing War and Ukraine's take on it, what do you think?
