Uttarakhand is NOT Burning

The Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has clarified that the news about wildfires is completely fake.

Yesterday Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced that there are no dangerous fires in Uttarakhand. He said that the images circulating on social media are old and this is fake news. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) in Uttarakhand said that “There are no fires in Uttarakhand. Some images and videos that went viral were circulated from South India.

The images going viral were of 2016. There was rainfall in UA in the Garhwal region and other places in UA. It has been raining very often this month so there are less cases of forest fires.” He said that there was a fire on 23rd May, but before it spread, it rained and the fire was doused. The Forest Department uses a NASA satellite that gives them visual images of the forest twice a day. When there is a fire they immediately reach the spot and control the fire. This is why the number of fires is low.
