USA Doctors Put Pig Kidney in Human

Due to the rise of Covid-19 case, many countries like Russia, China, New Zealand etc have imposed a lockdown.

There are many people who experience organ failure where their heart, liver, kidney, etc stop working properly. These people then have to undergo an organ transplant. However, organ transplant is not easy as many people want organs and they have to wait for years to get an organ that matches them. You can take anyone’s organ and put it in your body. Wait times for a kidney average three-to-five years. This is why there are many cases of people selling kidneys in black or people getting kidnapped and their kidneys getting stolen. Researchers have been working for decades to use animal organs for transplants, but such organs always get rejected by the human body - meaning the organs fail and do not work. However, recently doctors in the USA have performed a miraculous surgery. For the first time, a pig kidney has been transplanted into a human and the pig kidney was working perfectly in the human body!

The surgery was done at NYU Langone Health in New York City. The pig whose kidney was used was a genetically altered pig called GalSafe in a laboratory. It was especially developed to be used for transplant so that the human body does not reject any of its organs. It is also used as food by people who have meat allergies. The patient was actually a woman who was brain dead. This means her heart is beating because the brain is not working. She can not breath on her own and is on a ventilator. Doctors used the kidney from the GalSafe pig and put it in the woman. The surgery was a success! The kidney was functioning perfectly for 3 days. After three days the family decided to remove the ventilator as they did not want her to be alive by being connected to so many machines. The doctors were very happy with the surgery. Even though they need to run more tests, doctors feel that in a few years people with kidney failure can get pig kidneys. This will save the lives of so many people!
