USA: 100 Young People Steal iPhones From Apple Store

A group of teenagers wearing Halloween masks ransacked an Apple store in the US's Philadelphia on 26th September 2023 at around 8 pm. They looted iPhones, iPads, and other products, stuffed them into plastic bags and then fled from the spot. There were reportedly more than a hundred teens and they attacked other stores before the police showed up.

Videos of the incident shared on social media show police officers trying to grab the looters. The clips are now viral. The police chased fleeing teenagers and recovered dropped iPhones and a “pile of iPads” at one spot. Footage from the aftermath of the looting showed Apple devices seemingly ripped from their display stands. Police said the young people involved appeared to have coordinated the raids using social media and a caravan of cars was moving around locations in the city and breaking into shops. Twenty teens have been arrested so far, the police said. One of the looters, a woman, even livestreamed the chaos. Identified as Dayjia Blackwell, the woman was sharing clips of the looting on Instagram. She was later also caught by the police. Some of the videos circulating on social media also showed masked people in hoodies running out of a Lululemon store and police officers grabbing several and tackling them to the sidewalk.

On the day the Target stores announced that it would close nine stores including one in New York City and three in San Francisco, saying that theft and crime have threatened the safety of its workers and customers.
