UP Police Launch App to File e-Fir

The Uttar Pradesh police have recently downloaded an App called “UPCOP”. This App allows citizens to register an e-FIR thereby making the process to file complaints extremely easy.

In India many people avoid filing a complaint at police stations in the country, even if it is a serious crime. This is because people find the process very tedious. In order to make this process easier for the people, Uttar Pradesh Police has recently launched an App called, UPCOP. Using the app, people can lodge an e-FIR in cases of theft, cyber fraud, etc.Additional Director General of Police (Technical Services), Ashutosh Pandey, in the preparation of UPCOP. 

He said that,  Registering a FIR is very important to claim recovery or even get your loss recorded. However the victims have to make several rounds of police stations before their FIR can be registered. They launched the App to make the process easy. Apart from registering an e-FIR, one can also use the app for 26 other services. Like, one can report a lost article, get nearest police station's details, request for a character certificate, for tenant/domestic help verification, etc.Permission for protest/strike, event performance or shoots can also be requested via the app. UP Police will also spread information like recovered vehicles via the app. With the help of this App, one can also share confidential information with the police regarding a crime. The informer's details will not be revealed by the authorities.

However, many users have rated the app poorly on Google Play Store. People have said that they were not able to register on the App due to technical problems. Many who had requested the documents even after a month of waiting.
