Traffic Rules in These Countries are Even Stricter Than Punjab

To stop people from breaking the traffic rules, the Punjab government has issued a new set of traffic rules but are they strict enough if we compare the with rules around the world.

In India we often underestimate the breaking of traffic rules however the most number of deaths which happen in India are due to road accidents. On 17th July 2022, to stop people from breaking the traffic rules, exceeding the speed limit, or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Punjab will now attract community service at a hospital or compulsory blood donation as punishment. There will also be fines and temporary suspension of license. The fines will also increase after the first offense but the community services will remain the same. This new imposition of traffic rules in Punjab was considered extremely strict by several people. Well, honestly these rules are nothing in front of these weird, strange, and strict traffic rules around different countries in the world. Let us talk about a few of these rules in today’s video.

Germany-

Germany’s famous highway network, the Autobahn, is popular all over the world for not having any speed limits. But they have a strange driving rule there which states that you are not allowed to stop on the highway except for an emergency situation. Strangely enough, even if you run out of fuel there, you are eligible to be punished for breaking a traffic rule. As per the authorities there, not having enough fuel is considered the negligence of the driver. If the police see that the reason for stopping doesn’t have any valid reason, the offender can be punished with up to five years in jail.

Russia-

The law enforcement authorities in Russia are particular about keeping your car clean.

So much so that having a dirty car can make you eligible to pay a fine. Also, this doesn’t apply just to the exteriors, it includes the interiors of the car as well. What’s worse is that it is up to the officer to determine what’s “dirty” and what’s not. Adding to this, it’s also illegal to clean your car at any place apart from your residential area or an actual car wash center.

Cyprus-

Cyprus has one of the strangest driving rules around the world. In Cyprus, it is illegal to take your hand off the steering wheel while you are driving. This was done to control the number of accidents that occur on the island, which are pretty high. The rule has been made more extreme now with eating or drinking while driving also considered illegal.

South Africa-

South Africa is home to a wide variety of animals and they take a lot of pride in that fact. So much so that they have given animals equal rights to the road as drivers. If drivers don’t stop or give way to an animal crossing the roads, they can face fines of up to $500 which is around 40,000 Rupees.

Thailand-

Thailand can get pretty hot and humid sometimes. However, even if you feel the heat, you are not allowed to travel topless in any situation. And this rule applies to all means of transport, be it a car, bus, or auto rickshaw, if you are caught shirtless you will be fined and the rule applies to both men and women.

Singapore-

In Singapore, pedestrians have a right that no driver can come within a 50 m distance of them. The fine for breaking that rule is also pretty high. Luckily enough for the drivers, the city is so well-planned and designed that the possibility of that happening is almost impossible as Singapore is known to have one of the most well-organized road networks both for pedestrians and vehicles.

Philippines-

The capital city of the Philippines, Manila follows a system of “Color Coding”. What this means is that cars with certain registration numbers only have permission to be on the road on certain days. If any car with a number not belonging to that date is spotted on the city’s roads, the driver is breaking the law and will be instantly fined if caught. This rule was implemented to decrease the worsening traffic during the city’s peak hours. After listening to these weird and strict traffic rules around the world, do you still think rules for breaking the traffic rules in Punjab are very strict?
