TikTok Plans to Invest $1 Billion in India

The Madras High Court’s ban seems to have no impact on the Chinese App TikTok. They have now decided to invest $ 1 billion in India over the next three years.

Chinese App TikTok, owned by the start up ByteDance is available on Android and iOS. ByteDance, is one of the world’s most valuable startups in the world.  Popularly used by teenagers for creating and sharing short videos, this App has been downloaded by more than 120 million people.  On 3rd April The Madras High Court issued a ban on TikTok, citing that, pornograhpic and inappropiriate content was available on this App. Following the Madras High Court’s order, Google and Apple have removed the TikTok App from thePlay Store and App Store. However, people had previously downloaded the App, can still use it on their phones.

The ban has not affected the company. The company has said that they are very positive. They have plans to invest $1 billion in India over the next 3 years. Helena Lersch, the Director of ByteDance International Public Policy, has said that the company is working to make the rules on the TikTok App more strict. They are disappointed by the ban, but they are positive that they will solve the problem soon. She said that the company wants to continue working in India. They will also increase the number of employees to 1,000 by the end of the year.

The Madras High Court has now revoked the ban against TikTok. The App has promised to install mechanism, which would help to regulate obscene content on the App. This is why the HC has decided to revoke the ban. The HC has warned the App to make sure their settings stay in place or the court would penalise them.
