India is in lockdown since 24th March 2020 to control the spread of the coronavirus. Most of the companies decided to work from home during the lockdown. Working from home may not be too good for some companies but is India's largest IT company, TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) has managed to work very well from home.

TCS has about 4.5 lakh employees globally. Normally on average, 20 % of employees work from home. Due to the lockdown, TCS now has 90% of its employees working from home. They have said that this is because of software they created called Secure Borderless Workspaces (SBWS). They have been testing it for a while now and it has proven to be very successful. Many online meetings, calls, and messages are being sent through this software. This is why TCS CEO and MD Rajesh Gopinathan have decided that up to 2025 75 % of their employees will work from home.

He said because of this decision TCS will need less office space. This will help TCS save a lot of money. Before the lockdown in India, only 15-20% of employees of Indian companies worked from home. In countries around the world, many companies allow employees to work from home. Work is very flexible there. But this is not in India. Experts say that TCS's decision to work from home is very smart. If other companies make such decisions it will be very beneficial for them. In India, employees have to travel a long distance to reach their workplace. Work from home would be very useful to save time and be more productive. Some experts believe that Indian companies can not work from home. Because they do not have the proper technology, housing is a problem, internet issues, etc.
