Surat: Modi Inaugurates Diamond Office Bigger Than US Pentagon

PM Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse on 17th December 2023. It is now the world’s largest office building and is even bigger than the Pentagon building of America.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse, a monumental structure marking a new era in the diamond trade industry. Designed by Morphogenesis, this colossal complex spans 36 acres within the Diamond Research and Mercantile City (DREAM City), surpassing the famous Pentagon (US) in size. With nine towers featuring 15 floors each, the Bourse accommodates 4,500 offices catering to over 65,000 diamond traders in Surat. It aims to be a global hub for both rough and polished diamonds, boasting the world's first "diamond jewellery mall" and India's largest Customs Clearance Centre.

Celebrating eco-friendliness, it holds a platinum ranking from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), employing innovative features like solar panels that generate energy from both sides and waterless robotic cleaning solutions. While hailed as a game-changer by PM Modi for its potential to boost the local economy, the Bourse has faced initial challenges due to its outskirts location and connectivity limitations. Presently, only 135 out of 4,200 offices are operational, with plans underway to enhance global connectivity with major diamond centers. Despite teething issues, the Surat Diamond Bourse promises to redefine India's gem trade industry, showcasing architectural magnificence while aiming to shine as a beacon of trade and commerce.
