Stray Dog Kali Fights Snake; Saves 30 Children
A brave village dog, Kali, sacrificed her life fighting a cobra to save 30 children, becoming a hero in her community.
On the morning of April 20, in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, a group of nearly 30 kindergarten children sat outside their school—unaware of the danger slithering toward them.
A cobra. Before panic could set in, Kali—a stray dog loved by the village—sprang into action.
She charged.
What followed was a fierce battle. Kali stood her ground, taking multiple venomous bites to her face and mouth, but never retreating. Her only instinct: protect the children.
She fought until the snake lay dead.
Moments later, the poison took over. Kali collapsed—her mission complete.
Not a single child was harmed.
The village mourned her like one of their own. Draped in white, adorned with flowers, Kali was given a heartfelt farewell—no longer a stray, but a guardian.
A hero.
As the villagers said, “Kali saved our children… she will live in our hearts forever.”
