States Can Impose Night Curfew From December
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced that no state or union territory can impose lockdown outside of containment zones. However an exception has been made for night curfew.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday 25th November said that no state or union territory can impose lockdown outside of containment zones. MHA issues a new set of guidelines which will be effective from 1st December to 31st December. The MHA said, “State or UT Governments shall not impose any local lockdown, outside the containment zones, without prior consultation with the Central Government. States and UTs, based on their assessment of the situation, may impose local restrictions such as night curfew to contain the spread of the virus.” These guidelines were made after the recent spike in cases reported from Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat and Kerala after the festival season and onset of winter. These local restrictions will not stop the inter-state and intra-state movement of people and goods. The focus of the new guidelines is to ensure proper implementation of rules in containment zones and precaution without impeding economic activities.
