Sasikala Released From Jail & Reaches Chennai

On 8th Feb, Sasikala was released from Bengaluru jail after she completed her 4 year jail term. There were huge crowds of people on the streets when she drove from Bengaluru to Chennai.

65-year-old VK Sasikala was a close aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and was even the head of the AIADMK party.  During Jayalalithaa's three tenures as Chief Minister, Sasikala was alleged to have laundered huge amounts of wealth amassed by Jayalalithaa. However because of various corruption allegations, the AIADMK party removed her.  On 14 February 2017, the Supreme Court found her guilty and ordered her to 4 years jail. Yesterday on 8th Feb, Sasikala completed her 4 year jail term and was released from Bengaluru jail.

After her release she drove from Bengaluru to Chennai. The journey which would have usually taken 6 hours, took 23 hours because along the way there were huge crowds of supporters. When her car entered the Tamil Nadu border, the supporters went wild and they started playing drums to welcome her. Sasikala said, “"I want us all to work together for the betterment of Tamil Nadu. We must be united because we all have one enemy and we have to make sure that this enemy does not come in power”  Sasikala did not take any names and many are thinking about the meaning of her mysterious statement. Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections are only 2 months away and many are wondering if Sasikala may contest elections. The AIAMDK, however, said that Sasikala and those with her have no connection with the party. The party said she used the AIAMDK flag illegally on her car and they will take strict action against her.
