Sanitary Pad Vending Machine in Telangana Schools

Eight government school in Warangal district of Telangana install sanitary pad vending machines in the school premises.

In 2018, Rajbhavan High School in the Warangal district of Telangana had installed sanitary pad vending machine in the school. Since then, 8 other government schools in the Warangal district have followed their example and installed sanitary pad vending machines in the school.

 

Sanitary pad vending machine, is a machine in which the girls can deposit money, and a sanitary pad will come out of the machine. This machine helps the school girls buy sanitary pads without the need to talk to shopkeepers.   

Srinivas Chary is the Director of Administrative Staff College of India. He said that, even today many girls feel ashamed to buy sanitary pads. They are not comfortable to buy sanitary pads from medical stores. In India, 80% of the girls still use cloth or absorbent material like ash during their menstrual cycle. These are very dangerous to a woman’s health. He said that, the sanitary pad vending machines in schools will make sure girls have access to them without any trouble.

23% of girls don’t go to schools because they are not able to buy sanitary pad at school. The sanitary pad vending machines will encourage girls to come to school. The government of Telangana wants to install such machines in colleges, universities and government offices across the state.
