River of Wine Flowed Through a Portuguese Village

Red wine spill in São Lourenço do Bairro, Portugal, from a distillery; raised environmental concerns, redirected flow, and noted health benefits.

São Lourenço do Bairro is a small town in Portugal (Portuguese). The locals were in for a surprise on 10th September 2023 when a river of red wine began flowing through the streets of the town. Residents watched stunned as millions of litres of wine flowed down from a steep hill in the town and gushed down the streets. Videos show a seemingly endless river of wine flowing down the town's lanes. The mysterious wine river originated from a local Levira Distillery where tanks carrying barrels with more than 2 million litres of red wine unexpectedly burst. The spill was so massive that it could fill an Olympic-sized swimming pool. It also raised an environmental alert as the river of wine was headed to an actual river nearby. The wine also reportedly flooded a basement at a home near the distillery. The fire department swung into action to stop the wine flood before it turned the Certima River into a river of wine. The flood was redirected and made to flow into a nearby field. Levira Distillery has apologized for the bizarre incident. “We assume full responsibility for the costs associated with cleaning and repairing the damage, having teams do so immediately.” Though the river of wine could have caused an environmental mishap, experts have said that drinking red wine is good for your health. ISH News had released a video about it. You can have a look at it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6DnbX_yjHI

Important: Remember wine contains alcohol. So be responsible. Follow the rules for the age limit. Also anything extreme is bad. Even though wine may be good for health, drink in moderation.
