Popular Actor Junior Mehmood Passes Away at 67

Actor and director Junior Mehmood, known for his versatile roles, passes away at 67 after battling stage 4 stomach cancer.

You all may have seen the name ‘Junior Mehmood’ in a lot of movies. He was an actor, singer and Marathi film Director. He was popularly known as Junior Mehmood. His real name was Naeem Sayyed. The name Junior Mehmood was given to him by veteran comedy actor Mehmood Ali.Naeem Sayeed mimicked actors while in school and even went to movie sets with his brother, who worked as a photographer in films. At the age of eight Naeem made his screen debut in the movie Suhag Raat, which also starred Mehmood. When Mehmood saw Naeem mimicking him, he made Naeem his student and that is when Mehmood and people started calling him Junior Mehmood. Many even thought that he was Mehmood's son. They worked together in a lot of movies. He was suffering from stage 4 stomach cancer and was taking treatment from Tata Memorial Hospital in Parel. Comedian Johnny Lever had been in touch with him regularly. When he met Jr Mehmood one-and-a-half months ago, he was informed that he is unwell and has cancer. Recently, Jr Mehmood had expressed his desire to meet the actor Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgoankar as they had acted in many movies together. Jeetendra visited Junior Mehmood's residence on 5th December and became emotional during the visit. Actor Sachin Pilgaonkar too visited Junior Mehmood on 5th December and later posted a message on Instagram asking his followers to pray for the good health of his childhood friend. Sadly, Jr. Mehmood breathed his last on 8th December 2023 2 am at his residence after a prolonged fight against cancer. He was 67. In a career of over four decades, Junior Mehmood featured in over 260 films across seven languages. He even acted in several TV shows. He is survived by wife, 2 sons, a daughter-in-law and a grandson. Many netizens and a lot of celebrities too posted their condolences on social media.
