Policemen Killed in Encounter with Criminals

In Kanpur on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday (2nd & 3rd July) eight Uttar Pradesh police personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), were killed in an encounter with criminals. The police team was approaching to arrest Vikas Dubey, a person who had committed many crimes and was facing 60 criminal cases, in Dikru village. Officials said that the police team was about to reach the place where Dubey was hiding when suddenly many bullets were fired at them from a building rooftop, resulting in the death of the 8 police officials. 7 others have also been injured. Few police weapons are also missing. 

Uttar Pradesh Director General (DGP) of Police HC Awasthi said the criminal might have got an inkling of the raid. He and his henchmen put up massive roadblocks to prevent the police personnel from going towards their hideout. On getting information about the incident, a senior SP of Kanpur rushed to the spot. The forensic team has started investigations. The forensic team will be joined by another team from Lucknow.
The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police also working on the case, the DGP said.

Additional Director General (ADG) Prashant Kumar said, “Those responsible for the act will be caught and brought before the law. If there has been any lapse on the part of the police, it will be investigated.”Chief minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to the slain (died) policemen and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to their family members.
