PM Modi Inaugurates 36th National Games

The 36th National Games was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a glittering opening ceremony evening in the presence of over 100,000 ecstatic spectators.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 36th National Games at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday 29 September 2022. The glittering opening ceremony was held in the presence of over 100,000 spectators. This is India’s top sports tournament. There special performances by Gujarati traditional dancers. You must have seen in the Olympics a fire torch is passed on. Similarly at the National Games opening ceremony, Gujarat’s swimming star Maana Patel brought in the torch which is called the Torch of Unity and handed it over to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister placed the Torch on the podium for it to be lit by augmented reality. 

The Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Thakur, other dignitaries and several Indian athletes were also present at the event. When the PM rose to speak, a roar as loud as a thousand lions echoed in the stadium. This shows how much people of Gujarat love him. In his speech Modi said, ‘The sports budget of the country has increased by about 70 percent in the last 8 years. Until 8 years ago, Indian athletes participated in less than 100 international events. Now Indian players participate in more than 300 international events.’ Following the Olympic custom, teams of athletes from the 26 states and Union Territories walked around the stadium. The National Games, being held after seven years, will witness India’s best athletes compete in 36 disciplines in six cities of Gujarat.  Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot & Bhavnagar.

In India, the National Games 2022 will be LIVE Telecast on the DD Sports TV channel. The games will also be streamed LIVE on the Prasar Bharati Sports YouTube Channel.
