Let me tell in short about the various programmes that were held in the country. Top BJP leaders and PM Narendra Modi, visited Rajghat (Delhi) in the morning to pay homage Gandhiji. Congress interim Chief Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh also visited Rajghat.

Later on the same day PM Modi then went to the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. In front of 20,000 village heads and 900 primary school students he declared that in India is now open defecation-free (ODF) He said that he worked very hard for 5 years to achieve Gandhi’s dream. PM Modi said that 99% of rural India people do not defecate in the open anymore. In just 5 years, the government constructed more than 11,000 toilets and over 60 crore people have got access to toilet. Villages have built over 11 crore toilets in a short span of time.  The world is shocked by India’s achievement.

In his speech PM Modi said that the Swachh Bharat mission encouraged everyone in India and around the world. He urged people to take care of the environment, stop using plasting and keep India clean as that is what gandhi would have wanted. The whole world celebrated the birth of Gandhiji. France launched a new stamp with gandhi’s face on it. A statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Indian Embassy in Dhaka, Bangladesh celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi by presenting a dance drama on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. All of this shows that the teachings of Gandhiji have spread all over the world. We must all remember him throughout the year and live our lives according to his teachings.
