People with Disabilities Can Use UDID Card on CoWIN

Now, people with disabilities can use a Unique Disability Identification (UDID) Card as a Photo ID to register themselves on the CoWIN platform.

Currently to register for the COVID vaccine on the CoWIN website there are 7 Photo ID proofs that you can choose from. These are :  Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, driving license, passport, NPR Smart Card, or Pension Passbook. Now the Health Ministry on 7th June said that, “Unique Disability Identification  (UDID) card, issued to persons with disability by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) & Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), has all the necessary features such as the name, year of birth, gender and photograph of the person, and meets the criteria for use of identification in COVID-19 vaccination.

This is why the Central Government has written to the states & UTs to include UDID as a photo ID for registration on the CoWIN website. This has been done to further facilitate the access to vaccination by disabled people. The UDID option will come on the CoWIN website shortly.” Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has further advised the States and UTs to widely publicise the use of UDID card as a permissible photo ID for accessing Covid vaccination.
