Noida: Twin Towers Taller Than Qutub Minar Demolished

The Supertech twin towers in Noida were finally demolished on Sunday afternoon of 28th August, using 3700 Kgs of explosives.

The Supertech twin towers in Noida were finally demolished on Sunday afternoon of 28th August. The demolition is leading to a loss of about Rs 1,000 crore to developer Supertech. It also took nearly Rs 20 crores to demolish the building which is said to be taller than  Qutub Minar. Now when the building has finally been demolished, let us know why the buildings have been destroyed by the authorities?

The twin towers named as Apex and Ceyane were located in Sector 93A in Noida. One of the buildings has a height of 103 metres, while another one was around 97-metres tall.

For the demolition, about 3,700 kg of explosives were brought from Palwal (Haryana) to be used. It was a mix of dynamite, emulsions, and plastic explosives. The ‘Supertech Emerald Court’ housing society in Noida, in which the two towers were located, was proposed to be built in 2004.

From 2004-2016 many changes were made in the construction of the building. The number of floors, the height of the building, etc. were continuously changed by the Noida authorities and the Supertech builder.

However, the tenants kept complaining as they never got possession of their houses. And even people from the houses around complained. After several petitions filed by the homebuyer, the Supreme Court finally ordered the demolition of the twin tower as their construction violated the minimum distance requirement between the two apartments. According to the court, the buildings were built illegally without taking the consent of the individual flat owners as required under the UP Apartment Act. The supreme court also said Supertech and the Noida Authority were engaged in some illegal acts together. The buildings were to be demolished in May, which was later postponed to 21st of August. Recently, the Supreme Court also extended the deadline to 28th August.

Yesterday, the twin towers were finally brought to the ground with videos of the massive explosion being surfaced all over the internet. Construction cost Rs 1,000 crore and demolition cost Rs 20 crore. Out of the 711 homebuyers, the company refunded the money of 652 buyers. 59 buyers are yet to receive the refund.

The 1400 residents of the nearby buildings who were evacuated before demolition. Gas supply in the areas near the Supertech twin towers was stopped. People with respiratory problems were told to take care as a lot of dust was created after demolition. It took 12 seconds to raze the Supertech twin towers in Noida to the ground. But clearing will take 3 months. While the Noida Supertech twin towers' demolition largely remained successful, a boundary wall of a nearby residential society suffered damage while window panes of several apartments developed cracks. India’s largest intentional demolition. However, this demolition has divided people in two parts, the one who thinks that this has led to a massive loss of around a thousand crores, whereas the others who think that this demolition will be a lesson to the builders who get involved in illegal activities and play with the feelings and dreams of common home buyers.
