In this 3 day long trip starting from 2nd May, Modi visited Berlin in Germany. On 3rd May he reached Denmark for meetings and then on 4th May he reached France. His high profile meetings in Germany and Denmark were important but the most interesting part of this trip was his shortstop in France where he met the French president Emmanuel Macron yesterday.

It is because India not only shares good friendship with France but also France is one of the biggest business partners of India in Europe. France is the second largest supplier of Weapons and Defence Equipment to India after Russia. Also, in a very famous deal India purchased the advanced French Fighter Jets “Raffale”. France is soon planning to deliver the last batch of fighter Jets to India. Also France will soon deliver more planes at a discounted price for our AirCraft Carriers. These big deals in the sector of defence is just one of the few examples. India holds a very large percentage of Military  equipment which we have purchased from France. Because of these massive deals, India’s relations with France are excellent on the international level.

Emmanuel Macron has recently been re-elected as the French president, and is known to have good friendship with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Modi is the first world leader who met President Macron after his re-election last week. He had congratulated Macron after his re-election.

After Prime Minister Modi landed in Paris, he was very warmly welcomed by Indian citizens residing in France. Members of the Indian community were present outside the hotel where PM Modi reached after his arrival in Paris. Children were present and many of them asked Modi for his autograph. However Indian Citizens were not the only ones who welcomed the Indian Prime Minister. Modi was also warm heartedly welcomed by the French president in his residence “Élysée Palace.” The Élysée Palace also prepared vegetarian meals for the Indian Prime Minister on his arrival. Both leaders also posed for press photos as PM Modi arrived in  the Elysee Palace, where he was also greeted by Macron’s wife Brigitte. Macron held a private conversation with Modi before the official meeting. Both leaders discussed issues of defence, co-operation and Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. This high ranking meeting between the two countries will not only strengthen India’s international ties with Europe but also result in France cooperation with India on international matters.
