Mothers Launch Matrimony Group for Autistic Children

Five mothers from ,Chennai, Coimbatore and Bangalore created a Facebook group called “Inclusive Matrimony”, to find companions for their Autistic children.

Autism is a disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact and no two people have the same symptoms. Making very little eye contact, having difficulty with back and forth conversations, facial expressions that do not match what they are saying, repeating certain behaviors or words are some of the symptoms of Autism.

Sridevi is a mother from Bengaluru. She has a 28-year-old son with Autism, who works in a bank.

She moved with him to Dehradun where he was pursuing graduation and the to Chennai, where he completed his MBA. He now works in a bank, travels on his own and makes every household purchase. He is loving and affectionate, but cannot communicate well. Sridevi said that parents with such children always worry about the child’s future once they are no more.

Another Mother from Mumbai, said that her son who suffers from Autism, never completed graduation, but is a genius with computers and lives in Bengaluru. She said that she tried looking for a companion for him on different matrimonial sites, but failed.

Many people think that persons with Autism are socially awkward and emotionally distant. 5 mothers from , Chennai, Coimbatore and Bengaluru decided to change this mentality and set up a WhatsApp Group. They wanted to take their group to a broader platform, where people understood the problems of persons with disabilities. This lead to the formation of Facebook Group called “Inclusive Matrimony”. They created this group to find a spouse for their educated and earning sons, who have Autism.

Within two weeks, this group had 100 followers. Each of the followers are first checked by the five mothers, before they are allowed in the group. Most of the followers are parents of children with Autism or any other disability. The parents want to be part of the group, so that they can prepare for their child’s future. The group Inclusive Matrimony helps parents to find ways to secure their child’s future, by finding companions for them.
