After the world has suffered with the covid-19 pandemic for almost the last 3 Years, Monkeypox is another disease which is concerning different countries around the world map. It was earlier only found in Africa. Now the cases have now been confirmed in countries including the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, France, the United States and Australia. Monkeypox is usually a mild viral illness, which has symptoms of fever as well as a bumpy rash. However, scientists do not expect the outbreak to evolve into a pandemic like COVID-19, because the virus does not spread as easily as the Covid-19. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) there isn't a specific vaccine for monkeypox, but data shows that vaccines that were used in the cases of smallpox are up to 85% effective against monkeypox.
British authorities on Thursday said they have offered smallpox vaccines to some healthcare workers and others who may have been exposed to monkeypox. Many of the cases are not linked to travel to Africa. As a result, the cause of this outbreak is unclear. Although health authorities have said that this virus might have been transmitted sexually however it has not been confirmed. No such case has been reported in India but authorities are now on high alert.
