Minor Raped & Molested by Father, Brother, Grandfather & Uncle

Probing the alleged rape and sexual assault of an 11-year-old by four of her family members, Pune City Police have arrested her grandfather and detained her minor brother.

The Pune Police said a 11 year old girl who is from Bihar but is currently staying in Pune was allegedly raped by her teenage brother aged 14 and her father aged 45. While her grandfather aged around 60 and a uncle aged around 25 used to sexually assault her. She was raped and molested by these 4 people over the last five years. Ashwini Satpute, police inspector said, "The girl did not realize that something wrong was happening with her. Then in the school there was a session on  'good touch and bad touch'. Listening to the session, she realized that whatever her brother, father, grandfather and uncle were doing to her was wrong. That’s when she opened up to the school counselor. The counselor then filed a police complaint. Her ordeal was going on for the last five years.”

“In the complaint the girl said that her father started sexually assaulting her in 2017 when they were living in Bihar. The elder brother who is now 14 years old started sexually assaulting her around November 2020. Her grandfather and distant uncle used to touch her inappropriately in 2021.”Inspector Satpute said that all incidents occurred separately. All the 4 accused may not be aware of each other's actions. This is not a case of gang rape. Police have registered a case of rape under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the brother and the father of the girl. Her grandfather and the distant uncle were charged under section 354 - Molestation. Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act will be added, the police said. Police said the grandfather was arrested in Pune in the early hours of Sunday 20th March and her minor brother has been placed under detention (not arrested but has been brought to the police station) .A police officer investigating the case said, “We have dispatched teams for the arrest of father and uncle who are at two different locations. We hope to arrest them soon.” Almost all the police stations in Pune have been organizing workshops on the concept of “good touch – bad touch” for various age groups. Police take the help of experts, child psychologists and social workers for these workshops. A senior police inspector said, “This case highlights how all of us, including parents, school authorities, teachers, counsellors, and the police, have a crucial role to play in the well-being and safety of our children. A lot more needs to be done in this regard and police, too, are playing their part.”
