Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Wife and Boyfriend Arrested

A honeymoon trip of an Indore couple turned tragic after the husband was murdered in Meghalaya, and the wife was later arrested for allegedly planning the crime.

What began as a happy honeymoon trip for a newly married couple from Indore turned into a shocking crime that shocked the whole country. Raja and Sonam Raghuwanshi got married on 11th May 2025. For their honeymoon, they decided to visit Meghalaya and reached Shillong on 21st May.

However, just a few days later, both of them went missing.

Raja’s family became worried after losing contact with the couple and filed a missing complaint on 24th May. The scooty they had rented was later found abandoned near a dhaba in Sohra.

On 2nd June, police discovered Raja’s semi-decomposed body in a deep gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls. The post-mortem report confirmed he was murdered with sharp weapons. His smartwatch and a tattoo helped police identify the body. A special investigation team was set up to solve the case.

After checking phone call records and CCTV footage, the police found that Sonam was in regular contact with a man named Raj Kushwaha. Later, three men — Akash, Vishal, and Anand — were arrested from different parts of India. All of them were accused of helping with the murder.

On 8th June, Sonam was found at a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. According to police, she surrendered with her brother’s help. Police say Sonam and Raj Kushwaha planned the murder and hired three men to help them.

The group reportedly killed Raja during a trek in Meghalaya and then escaped. The guide’s statement also confirmed that there were three other men with the couple before Raja went missing.

Sonam’s father has denied the murder charges and demanded a CBI inquiry, saying his daughter was kidnapped and is being wrongly blamed.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister praised the police for solving the case within 15 days. ISH News will keep following the updates on this shocking case. Stay tuned.
