Mediclaim Holders to Get Interest If Not Paid on Time

Mediclaim policy holders now have a right to interest if they do not receive interest in time.

The State Consumer Panel has declared that, if a Mediclaim policy holder does not receive the claim in time, he/she has the right to receive interest on that amount. This will benefit many Mediclaim policy holders.

A woman had claimed Rs 1.7 lakh from her insurance company. She had gone through ovarian surgery in 2011. The Name of the Insurance company is New India Assurance Co Ltd. In 2013, they rejected the woman’s claim.

An Ombudsman is a person appointed by the government who will investigate complaints launched by the citizens.The ombudsman ordered the insurance company to pay the woman. She received her cheque in 2013.

She complained that since she received the payment late she has a right to the Interest. The State Consumer Panel, said that the woman deserves to get Rs 30,000 compensation as she received her claim very late.
